For over 10 years, the name "Sterling's Upstairs" has been synonymous with the most critically acclaimed supper club experience of any kind
in the greater Los Angeles area.
Created by Producer Michael Sterling in association with Tony Monsour, Sterling’s Upstairs has presented the best of Broadway and Musical Theatre stars and Nightclub Artists in a cabaret supper club setting since June 9, 2006 when it first opened its doors at the legendary Vitello’s Restaurant in Studio City, CA. In honor of his lifelong friend and mentor - the late Rosemary Clooney, one of music’s most prolific recording stars and distinguished headliners - Mr. Sterling not only founded and dedicated the club to her memory, but fulfilled a promise between them to keep her music, the music of her contemporaries, and the music of Broadway and the Great American Songbook alive and singing in a supper club somewhere
for future generations to enjoy.
Sterling’s Upstairs has proudly presented over 1100 shows featuring 1250 performers including stars from Broadway, national and regional musical theater stages, television and film, and distinguished nightclub artists. Dubbed “LA’s cabaret destination” by the Los Angeles Times, Sterling’s remains the most critically acclaimed venue of its kind in Southern California. Sterling's Upstairs not only remains a constant on the entertainment scene in Los Angeles, but the standard by which all other such venues are judged.
On March 18, 2012, Sterling’s Upstairs at Vitello's closed its doors and reopened April 1, 2012 at one of LA's newest California gourmet gastro pubs and entertainment destinations, The Federal Bar and Restaurant, located in the heart of North Hollywood's trendy NoHo Arts District.
Since then, Sterling's Upstairs has presented such headliners as Broadway, Film and Television stars the multi Award-winning John Lloyd Young, Lainie Kazan, Lea Thompson, Rachel York, Ilene Graff, Bill Hayes, Hal Linden, Cortes Alexander with Liza Minnelliand Allison Janney, Academy Award winner Richard Sherman, the cast of Olympic Gold Medalist and Tony Award Nominee Cathy Rigby's National Touring Production of Peter Pan,Tony Award nominees Kay Cole, Euan Morton, Beth Malone; and Broadway performers Kim Huber, David Burnham, Valerie Perri, Matt Zarley, Kerry O'Malley, Mary Callanan; and Tony Award Winner Faith Prince with Broadway's Jason Graae; Terri White; London West End/Broadway superstar and Tony Award nominee Ramin Karimloo... and many more!
"Sterling's adds a formidable dimension to the city's already hottest hot spot for dining, dancing, comedy and jazz... all while embracing the recently renovated, cutting edge interior of a former 1926 bank building."
- Variety
"To say that the present meets the past at The Federal is to say that a vintage feel with a cool sense of chic compose the ambiance at Sterling's."
- The Hollywood Reporter
The Los Angeles Daily News says "Like the Sondheim lyric, Sterling's has indeed been '...putting it together' - State-of-the-Art lighting and sound, video technology, a proscenium stage, a full bar, a private, outdoor patio overlooking the NoHo surroundings, and designer floors on which dining tables seat 100 guests. The feel of being in the Broadway district of New York cannot be denied."
The club's impressive neighbors include the historic El Portal Theatre, the Art Institute of California, the NoHo Arts Center, the nationally acclaimed Deaf West Theatre, and Anteaus - one of LA's most distinguished classical theatre companies, - and numerous Equity-waiver/professional theaters. The NoHo Arts District is also home to the world renowned Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and Laemmle Movie Theatres; newly constructed, high rise condo living; and Metro Rail...a rapid transit rail system serving 70 stations in Los Angeles County.
