Michael Sterling's introduction to public relations came in 1968 when he served as a publicist for the Los Angeles Music Center Operating Company which oversaw all productions at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Ahmanson Theatre and the Mark Taper Forum.

In 1972, he was invited to join the staff of Rogers & Cowan, Inc., the world's largest public relations company. Examples of his entertainment clients read like a Who's Who in Music and included George Harrison, Donny and Marie Osmond and the Osmond Brothers, the Bee Gees, Richard and Karen Carpenter, Ray Price, Ann-Margret, Elliott Gould, John Denver, Mama "Cass" Elliot, Joan Rivers, Jim Croce, The Fifth Dimension, Ray Price and Mac Davis. Corporate accounts included Avon Cosmetics, Vivian Woodard Cosmetics, Ralston-Purina, and Stutz Bearcat (the world's first $100,000 convertible.)

On June 9, 2006, Michael Sterling opened Sterling's Upstairs at Vitello's in Studio City, CA. Known for presenting the best of Broadway stars, regional Broadway performers, and Nightclub artists in concert, Mr. Sterling dedicated the club to his longtime friend and mentor, the great Rosemary Clooney.  Having road managed Ms. Clooney, it was the famous singer who encouraged him and wished him good luck to one day open a venue that would keep music from Broadway and the Great American Songbook alive for future generations of true patrons of the arts. Consequently, Sterling's Upstairs is the only supper club of its kind in the San Fernando Valley, and the most critically acclaimed, award-winning supper club in the greater Los Angeles area.  Its resounding success has been recognized with numerous honors including the 2008 and 2009 Readers Choice Awards for Best Live Entertainment by readers of the Los Angeles Daily News; and has been an annual top five winner on MyFoxLA TV's Best of LA "Hot List" since 2007.  As part of the cultural and culinary landscape of Los Angeles, Vitello's is also a multi-award winning restaurant known and has been known for over 40 years for its fine Sicilian cuisine, extensive wine list and super service.

Michael Sterling & Associates also annually produces LA's Next Great Stage Star, the most prestigious "theatre" talent competition in Los Angeles.  Judged by a live audience and an elite panel of over a dozen Musical Theatre, Film, Television and Commercial aficionados for 6 consecutive weeks, the American Idol-type competition, has launched and/or accelerated the careers of not only its winners, but 50% of its contestants.

On January 7, 2009, in association with Lance Sterling - Managing Partner of The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, CA, - Mr. Sterling was invited to replicate his continuing success at Sterling's Upstairs by creating Broadway in Concert! at The Canyon, a first-ever series of intimate concerts at this legendary west San Fernando Valley supper club.

One of the most successful venues in the country, The Canyon is a leading presenter of top name pop, rock, country, and comedy acts.  Eclectic in style and design, the club seats just over 500 guests at tables and features exquisite dining - coupled with performances by a vast array of headliners including Michael McDonald, Pat Benatar, Judy Collins, Neil Young, Willie Nelson, The Smothers Brothers, Jon Lovitz, Don Rickles ... and many more.  MSA's foray into presenting the music of Broadway and the Great American Songbook performed by top tier Broadway musical theatre stars, was embraced by audiences and media alike during its special four-month engagement.
